I wear several hats, but the one that has caused the most notoriety/publicity is my work with the Klingon language. Yes, I’m talking about Klingon as in Star Trek. In 1991 I founded the Klingon Language Institute, and ever since I’ve been traveling the world introducing the language to fans, speaking at museums, and basically building this unique linguistic community.

I have Ph.D. in psychology, and I spent ten years as a college professor and researcher, focused primarily in the areas of psycholinguistics and cognitive psychology. From there I branched out into consulting, and I currently work as a research director (and ocassional therapist) for a series of medical centers in Philadelphia that provide mental health and addictions assistance to the city’s poor and indigent.

And, when I’m not doing either of those things, I’m a professional science fiction author. I find time to write every day, including weekends, holidays, days I feel like crap, whenever. Writing is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and the greatest challenge.
